This place has established itself as one of the main tourist attractions in the region. The emotion that it generates and the contact with its imposing landscape starring a wild and huge stone wall have stolen the attention of climbers and tourists who seek to have fun and establish direct contact with nature.
This place was an ancient Chibcha settlement whose original name, (Sueica), meant (Rock of the Birds). The immense rocky mountain is aligned along 2 kilometers with walls that range from 20 to 130 meters high and make up the Valley of Los Halcones and the Farallones de Suesca.
The Rocas de Suesca are the main attraction for fun and extreme sports for lovers of this exercise; This is due to the incredible rock formations that have about 400 routes, which offer different levels of difficulty for athletes.
The walls of the Rocas de Suesca and Valle de los Halcones correspond to sandstone-type sedimentary rock, which is made up of quartz grains joined by siliceous cement, which are found in solid layers with thicknesses of 0.5 to 3.00 meters each. .
There are also intercalations of grain called siltstones. These are a series of rocky layers that rise up to 150 meters in height, and there are two main directions of fractures that gave rise to the cracks in the vertical direction; which generates a structure characterized by dihedrals, spurs and suras of different sizes, which together with the intercalations of the layers of hard and soft materials give rise to abundant ceilings and balconies.
Therefore the rock in general offers good grip for climbing. However, there are places where the rock is covered by a thin layer of ferruginous oxides that make it very smooth and not very adherent, increasing the degree of difficulty in climbing it.
Next, in some places there are cavities in the rock that serve as grips, product of the activity of erosion, wind and water. Finally, to camp on the rocks of Suesca, there are demarcated places and they have restrooms and a restaurant.
This emblematic place has served several mountaineers in preparation to conquer different emblematic peaks such as Everest. Travelers also have the option of taking climbing courses that are taught by experienced guides.
